Bar/Bat Mitzvot

Your bar or bat mitzvah day is one of the few that will stay with you all of your life. Our Jewish tradition tells us to mark special occasions by celebrating with family and friends, in part so that these memorable days will remain with us forever.

Tradition teaches us to deepen our happiness by sharing our joyous celebrations with people in need. It is especially appropriate to do so on the day of your bar/bat mitzvah, when a child becomes an adult and accepts responsibility for fulfilling the mitzvah of tzedakah.

Please consider giving a percentage of the cost of your celebration to MAZON to fulfill our tradition. Make this day even more special by providing food and other help, through MAZON, to poor families everywhere.

Here are a few ways to tell your guests that you’re sharing your bar/bat mitzvah with those in need:

Table Cards
The cards can be used either as table cards or individual place cards to signify that your family has invited the poor to your celebration table. They are free of charge with any size contribution and can be sent to you in advance of your special day.

Centerpiece Cards
The cards can be used as part of your centerpiece to also signify that your family has invited the poor to your celebration table. Like the table cards, the centerpiece card are free of charge with any size contribution and can be sent to you in advance of your special day.

Certificates
The certificate can be used in conjunction with your bar/bat mitzvah to honor certain individuals, be they honorees at the candle lighting ceremony, your rabbi, cantor, friends or relatives. The usual donation amount is $18 (chai) per certificate. If time permits, we would be happy to provide a certificate for the rabbi to present to you on the bimah, indicating that your family has invited MAZON to the table of your simcha.

“In Lieu of Gifts” cards
These can be included with your invitation if you are requesting that guests make contributions to MAZON instead of giving gifts.

Tributes
At your request, MAZON will send a personalized tribute card, notifying the bar/bat mitzvah that you have made a contribution in his/her honor. To cover the cost of these tributes, MAZON requests a minimum contribution of $18 each.
